How to use the Budapest Card?

Validity of the Card

The Budapest Card is your personal card, and should not be used by anyone else. The Budapest Card entitles both the cardholder and a maximum 14-year-old child to use the services included. Cards without a date or the owner's signature are not valid. The Budapest Card is available with a validity of 48 hours and 72 hours. Similarly to the bank cards the magnetic stripe on the reverse side of the Budapest Card is also very sensitive, so please protect it from heat and magnetic effects. For passengers using the car renting service, the card is valid two days longer: from the day before the card is dated on until the second day after that day in case of 2-day Cards, and the third day after that day in case of 3-day Cards.

Public Transportation

The Budapest Card serves as your pass when you travel on any of the City's public transport facilities including the Children's Railway. When asked, simply present it to the ticket inspector, who is entitled to check the validity of the signature on the card. Passengers travelling without a valid ticket or without a valid Card will be fined. On the suburban train (HEV) lines the Budapest Card Is valid only till the city borders, when travelling outside It, you have to buy a supplementary ticket in advance.

Museums and Sights

You are requested to show your card at the ticket office, where the card's serial number will be registered. Cardholders are admitted to permanent exhibitions only; to visit temporary exhibitions, you will have to purchase a separate ticket. At some museums and at the Zoo, the ticket office closes an hour or half an hour before closing time.

Baths Reduction in price pertains only to the entrance-fee, not to other services.

Restaurants

You and your guests will obtain a special discount with your Budapest Card. Please show your card when you place your order, then sign the bill when it is presented by the waiter. Shops Please present your card to the shop assistant before paying.

Car rental

During the specified 4 or 5-day period (see "Validity of the Card" above), your card will secure you a special reduced price when you rent a car. The first day of renting must fall within this period and the reduced price is valid for the duration of your first, uninterrupted period of renting.
