Festival of Chariots in Budapest
The Festival of Chariots carries a special message: whereas the general tenet is that to contact God we have to go to a temple, at the time of the Ratha Yatra, the festival of chariots, the Lord of the Universe Himself will come out of the temple to meet the people.
By organising this festival, the Krishna-conscious devotees want to point out that God is present not only in the temples and holy places, He is everywhere, and the living beings, His parts and parcels, are in contact with Him at every moment.
The devotees also want to call the attention to the power of the community and the importance of faith in maintaining the family and human relations. Within the framework of the Year of the Family, they are awaiting the families with programmes that are attractive
to the grandson as well as to the granny. The Festival of Chariots is for everybody, irrespective of age. The annual Ratha-yatra is also the symbol of peace unifying people of all religions: In India, for many centuries, this festival was only accessible for the Hindus, but, thanks to Srila Prabhupada, the Founder Acarya of the International Society for Krishna-Consiousness, such festivals are organised in summertime in all major cities in the world. Its openness shows that, although we may be approaching God via different paths, we
share the same goal and we are all God's children.
